skip to: the story behind the 3 RVs

----

Today (10/10/04) i celebrate the 6th year anniversary of buying my first GMC Motorhome. At times it seems that the space-age RVs themselves have steered my tech-nomadic adventures as much as any other factor. Indeed, after 5 years of full-timing, the Re-creational vehicles tend to take on a personalities of their own. But after a while, some of the mechanical responsibilities of multiple RVs become a bit of an artistic side-track (!), and so it is now my intention to scale back down to owning just one GMC. And though i'm leaning towards the coach of choice being the more spacious '78 Eleganza 26', there are certain studio accomodations i've grown accustomed to in the '76 Birchhaven 23'; and of course there is the immediate front-exterior rebuild necessary (in progress) from last year's Eleganza accident. For details of the karavan and the crash (amusing storyboard with video links), click on "A Tale of 3 RVs".

A certain attachment to both of the vehicles has made the decision between the 2 all the more difficult, delaying my listing of either of the coaches as officially "for sale". However, at this point i'd like to make it known via this website that i certainly have ONE GMC MOTORHOME for sale. In fact I could sell either of the 2, and in a variety of configurations depending of course upon price and timing... I could work around whichever fetches a fair price first. Here's where we stand today:

MOTORHOME(s) FOR SALE

'78 GMC Eleganza II Motorhome with smashed front end and ALL the parts needed to fix. Thankfully, the front bumper did its job, and the offending vehicle didn't harm any vital components of the engine! Before the accident, the RV was appraised at $31,000, and the insurance claim pay-out was based on a price of $20,100, and this was NOT a "stated value" policy. So based on the latter figure, one should note that this was a GMC in great shape. This is a 26', with 138k original miles w/ recent rebuilt 403, headers, all living amenities, 6k generator, deep cycle battery banks and wiring upgraded for mobile solar studio.... well-maintained operationally; cosmetically, needs a new headliner and the cabinets are a bit banged up. Mechanically, it needs the front frame piece replaced with this same piece from the parts-coach (this repair will be completed by 1/5/04). Next, I have the radiator, bumper and fiberglass grill needed to complete the repair. Yes, the coach has been sitting a year and has become a bit dusty; but it has been started up and put into gear every few months. Too many upgrades to list here, but full inventory available for those seriously interested. Take on this project and you're gonna come out of it with a classic beauty worth twice the price. The Eleganza can be driven across the lot (but no radiator installed at the moment). With this deal you also get all the relavent parts listed from the '73 donor coach: asking $9250 for all. Yes, you often find road-ready GMCs sold on Ebay for this range of price, but certainly not in the state of restoration and upgrade this coach was in pre-crash. I'll soon be putting up a more extensive list of features and work history. in the meantime: Please email for more info.

OR: also for sale (will only sell one or the other):

'76 GMC Motorhome, 23', 87k original miles, 455 was rebuilt 30k ago, headers (does 100MPH on highway), silver paint job in '02, all living amenities including NEW refrigerator (6/04), 4k generator, deep cycle batteries and wired for mobile studio. Well-maintained motorhome. This is the rare 23 foot version of the classic GMC, which typically fetches $15-20k with such a list of upgrades, but since the interior is mostly set-up for a studio, pricing could be on a flexible continuum based on what you want, and what gets stripped. For example, take this RV in basic motorhome configuration for $14,500

OR: enhanced to full studio and/or high-performance package, with 240 watts of SOLAR, 1800 watt sine-wave inverter, skid-proof aluminum studio racks, Alcoa aluminum wheels w/ recent Michelin load E tread, grey leather seats (2 yrs old) in excellent condition, dual Trojan battery banks with Ragusa aluminum tray, storage pod, dual Fantastic fans, recent tranny and differential servicing, new plugs and wires. Would also throw in 40 hours of my labor to help you configure it the way you want it; or for interior / exterior touch-up, $22,000
